Time to say Goodbye

When a Head teacher moves on to pastures new or retires, this naturally creates a few changes in your school.   Existing staff might be moved around and new teachers may well be welcomed into the fold.  Whilst schools always look forward to the new challenges of an academic year or the start of a new term, a change of Head can also be a good time to be reflective and look back on his or her achievements.

In Primary Schools, a big part of school life is the music and singing which you share together. Sometimes this might be for Assembly or the end of term play / nativities. Some schools might also take part in local singing competitions or put on concerts, both at school and around their local community. In our experience the Head Teacher is often heavily involved in all these ventures and can rightly have a great sense of pride in the children’s achievements.

Over the years we have recorded a number of CDs celebrating Head Teachers who are either retiring or moving to new schools.   Not only is this a great project to end the academic year with but it gives the pupils a chance to celebrate their retiring headteacher.   Of course, like all our school recordings, it’s also a great opportunity for the school to raise a bit of money.  Some schools choose to donate this to a charity of the head’s choice whilst others use the money to invest in the future of the school.

By recording a CD not only are you creating a gift which your retiring Head will treasure for years to come but also you are creating an additional fund. This could either be used to create a further legacy at the school in recognition of your Head or it might be used by the PTA to create future fundraising opportunities.   And ultimately it’s far more personal than a carriage clock you picked up on Amazon!
