At the end of last week we travelled to Cheshire to record the staff and pupils at St Joseph’s Primary School in Winsford. Being a bit of a trek from our Wiltshire base, this meant leaving at 4am. But the advantage of this is that we can escape the hazards of rush hour traffic on the M6 and in fact arrived in Winsford just after 7am.
Once we had signed in, we were shown the hall where the recording was taking place. Breakfast club was just getting underway but we are used to setting up around children munching on toast and generally speaking there is plenty of space for us to set up at one end of the hall without being in the way.
The Recording Session
By 9am we were ready to record and the first group of children came into the hall. There was an interesting set of songs to be recorded from the last 50 years which included each year group, the school choir and even the staff singing at the end of the day. All the children were extremely well prepared for the recording and their singing was a pleasure to listen to. It’s always nice when we come across a choir in a Primary School.
Music is never going to rank alongside the core subjects of Maths and English but it is always nice to hear the fantastic singing which goes on in Primary Schools. The singing at St Joseph’s in Winsford had clearly benefited from the inspiration of Mr Dalton who runs the choir and was very much involved with the recording process.
The day finished with a staff song, which had also been well prepared. We always enjoy recording a staff song and I’m sure the parents and pupils love hearing their teachers take part. That said, staff songs do vary. This one, however, had been well rehearsed and also included a number of soloists.
We have output a short preview of the choir with their 2 fantastic soloists singing ‘This is Me’ from the Greatest Showman which we hope you will enjoy listening to. The CD is currently in production and copies should be available from the school in the next week or so.
Like the majority of Primary Schools we record, St Joseph’s held a competition for the front cover design which was won by a Year 5 Pupil. Her fantastic design will feature on the front of the CD and a preview is shown below.
We had a great day recording the pupils and staff at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Winsford and we hope everyone enjoys listening to the CD as much as we enjoyed recording it.
