The School CD recording at English Martyr’s Primary School took us up the M1 to Nottinghamshire. We were greeted on arrival by the teachers who had booked the recording and, first things first, we were made a cup of tea! This always bodes well! We were then able to move the car into the playground before the children arrived to facilitate a quick unloading of kit straight into the school hall.
We were soon set up well ahead of schedule and there was time for more tea and biscuits before we started recording at 9am. The first song featured the entire school with their music teacher playing the guitar. Just before we started a violin teacher was spotted and so he was invited to join in too. Fortunately we carry a plethora of microphones so were quickly able to mic up the violin too.
The recording proceeded on schedule with all the school songs being done first – one of which included a harmony part sung by the choir. We then recorded a number of songs with the school choir.
It was another hot day, and the choir were doing well recording almost non stop during the morning apart from their usual break time. As a reward and a chance to cool down Rocket lollies were brought in – and there were 2 spare!
Most of the recording was done by lunchtime but it wasn’t too difficult to move our kit out of the way for the lunchtime staff to set up tables. We were then treated to a nice cooked lunch in the staff room! We continued with the last few choir songs after lunch and then we recorded the school prayer as a nice ending for the CD. This particular album doesn’t have a staff song on it, but we did get some nice singing from the staff during one of the whole school songs.
